Anthony E. Flanagan, J.D. serves clients
throughout North Carolina in the practice areas of public
housing law, non profit and church related law, business
and civil litigation including landlord tenant disputes,
and sports and entertainment law. Anthony is barred
before the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the State
of New York, the State of North Carolina, the State
of Georgia, the Southern District of New York, the Eastern
District of New York, and all three Federal Districts
of North Carolina.
Background
Born August 27, 1963 in Durham, North
Carolina, Anthony E. Flanagan is a native North Carolinian.
Educated in North Carolina, he received his Bachelor
of Arts Degree in History from the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1985. Anthony received his
Law Degree from the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill, School of Law in 1988.
Upon graduation from law school, Anthony worked for
eight years as a prosecutor for the Kings County District
Attorney's Office in Brooklyn, New York. While working
for the Kings County District Attorney, Anthony prosecuted
mid to high-level narcotics traffickers as a member
of the Major Narcotics Bureau, investigated numerous
serious felony crimes, conducted wiretap investigations
and prosecutions, and conducted numerous misdemeanor
and felony trials. In 1994 the Kings County District
Attorney promoted Anthony to Deputy Bureau Chief of
the offices' Criminal Court Bureau. In this capacity
Anthony supervised dozens of attorneys responsible for
processing and prosecuting the tens of thousands of
misdemeanor arrests that occurred in Brooklyn yearly.
This supervision included the supervision of bench and
jury trials. While a prosecutor in Brooklyn, New York,
Anthony's special assignments included: Assistant Prosecutor
for the Special Narcotics Prosecutor of the City of
New York; appointment to the District Attorney's Death
Penalty Panel for reviewing the application for Kings
County of the then recently adopted New York death penalty
statute; and oversight of special task-forces assisting
severely effected communities in Brooklyn.
Upon returning to North Carolina, Anthony served as
a federal prosecutor for the U.S. Attorney's Office
for the Eastern District of North Carolina from 1997
through 1998. While a federal prosecutor, Anthony worked
to prosecute drug traffickers, gun traffickers, and
white-collar offenders. Anthony has been in private
practice since 1998, and before joining Harris & Hilton, P.A. as a partner, worked with the law
firm of Wood & Francis, P.A. and the law firm of
Davis Flanagan Bibbs & Smith, PLLC. Anthony's Current
clients include Torry Holt of the NFL St. Louis Rams,
VSM Management Services, Multi-State Contracting Corporation,
the North Wilkesboro Housing Authority, and various
churches in the triangle.
As a Raleigh resident, Anthony is a longtime and active
member of Saint Ambrose Episcopal Church, and serves
on the boards of several community organizations such
as the Triangle Adult Soccer League, Friends of Dorothea
Dix Park, and Partners for Environmental Justice.
